Microsoft is doing a great job enabling devs to imagineer relevant scenarios where their tech can take off; But it isnt sufficient - a final beautiful useful product should come out of this ; so I believe they should work in unison with devs until that end.
The following techs should have been more successful than they are:

2. surface
3. cloud [2001 - .net web services]
4. smart-glass
5. kinect
6. lightswitch
7. wp7
